Canine Myotherapy for Dogs
Supporting dogs in Bovey Tracey and surrounding Devon areas with Galen Myotherapy.
Restoring Comfort, Easing Tension, Supporting Movement
What is Galen Canine Myotherapy?
I offer Galen Myotherapy in Bovey Tracey, Devon, supporting dogs with pain relief, mobility, and soft-tissue health through gentle, dog-led therapy.
Canine Galen Myotherapy is a specialised form of massage and functional bodywork for dogs. It combines clinical understanding with a respectful, dog-led approach to support soft tissue health, comfort, and movement.
It doesn’t just work on muscles; it works with fascia, the connective tissue that wraps around and supports every structure in the body, including muscles and organs.
When fascia becomes tight or restricted, whether from injury, arthritis, poor posture or repetitive strain, it can limit movement and cause compensatory pain elsewhere.
Myotherapy helps release these restrictions and bring the body back into balance.
I’ve trained with Galen Myotherapy, a pioneering and well-respected school, because I share their emphasis on consent-led therapy, scientific understanding, and gentle, effective support for every dog, regardless of age, diagnosis, or background.
Helping Your Dog to Feel Better
Canine Myotherapy can help support dogs with:
Osteoarthritis
Hip dysplasia
Elbow dysplasia
Luxating patellas
Cruciate ligament injuries (managed or post-op)
Old injuries that still affect how your dog moves
Compensatory pain caused by long-term postural changes
Muscle tightness following periods of rest, crate restriction or surgery
It’s also beneficial for sporting and working dogs, especially when used as part of a conditioning, warm-up or recovery plan.
My work doesn’t aim to “fix” a diagnosis, but it can make your dog feel more comfortable, freer in their movement, and more relaxed in their body.
My Therapeutic Approach
Your dog’s comfort always comes first
Galen Myotherapy follows the Positive PACT® approach
A cycle of Positive, Progressive, and Effective Therapy that puts your dog’s emotional and physical wellbeing at the centre. This isn’t a “pin-down-and-push-through” style of massage.
Instead, I observe, listen, and respond to your dog. They always have the freedom to choose whether they engage, reposition themselves, or take breaks, and their emotional state is as important as their physical one.
You can expect a calm, respectful atmosphere and a pace that suits your dog as a unique individual.
What to Expect in a Session
Canine Myotherapy can help support dogs with:
✅ Visual assessment of posture, movement and gait
✅ Gentle, dog-led massage techniques
✅ Observation of your dog’s comfort and emotional state throughout
✅ Aftercare guidance tailored to your dog’s needs
Most dogs start to soften or lean in during treatment. Some may fall asleep. Others prefer to take things slower, and that’s okay.
This is about giving your dog the chance to feel safe and supported.
Environmental Support
Often, the way a dog moves is shaped by the environment they live in. As part of your dog’s treatment plan, I’ll work with you to identify small changes that could make a big difference:
- Placing rugs or runners on floors that are slippery
- Raising food or water bowls to a more comfortable height
- Limiting stair access, especially after injury or surgery
- Supporting easier resting and sleeping positions
Even subtle adjustments to a dog’s home environment can ease strain, reduce tension, and support the long-term benefits of massage.
Ongoing Support
Soft tissue problems often develop slowly over time, and they need time to resolve, too. That’s why I recommend a minimum of three sessions for most dogs. This allows us to:
- Build trust
- Make gradual changes
- Assess how your dog is responding
- Provide consistent therapeutic input for real progress
Massage isn’t a “quick fix” – but when used over time, it’s a powerful tool for helping dogs move more freely and comfortably.
Prices:
Initial consultation and treatment (up to 90 minutes): £70
Follow-up sessions: £50 each
Three-session starter package: £145
As per UK law and professional standards, I can only treat dogs with prior veterinary consent. This helps ensure your dog receives safe and appropriate care.
You can download my Vet Referral Form here or I can contact your vet directly if preferred.
